Birmingham United Kingdom: Attractions
With many attractions to see, it is a good idea to carefully plan
your itinerary to ensure you take in all the sights you want to see.
A good starting point is Stephenson place in the city centre. From
here you can explore the centre on foot and marvel at the
fascinating architecture such as Council House in
Victoria square, which is a great example of Victorian workmanship.
A short walk from the centre leads to the Jewellery quarter, an
area crammed with over 100 jewellery shops, where you can witness
craft workers design and create masterpieces. It is also possible to
have a custom made piece to take away with you. Located in the heart
of Britain’s canal network, Birmingham is a great place to
experience the waterways by cruising in a narrow boat or just
walking along the towpaths.
Just north of the city is the Black Country Museum, where life in the
mid-1800s has been preserved. The region around Birmingham is known as
the Black Country due to the black smoke that poured out in the iron
working era. Recreations of an industrial village and a train journey
into a coal seam are highlights and teach visitors about the city’s
important role in England’s Industrial Revolution.
